I see that Dusk is now available on Amazon so I’ll count today as my book birthday. I enjoyed researching the First World War for the story. It’s seen from the point of view of a young nurse and an artist-turned-soldier. The writing made me ask if I thought love or romance could survive the horror - you’ll find out my long answer if you read the book. In short it is complicated, but maybe when all else is being blown apart, it’s those you love who matter.
Over on the history girls join blog I have been thinking about The Great Gatsby - do visit and see what was said! i am a fan of 1920s fashion and fell in love with a particular hat in the recent film. Fashion during WW1 was obviously much more limited but perhaps it was here that the changes began. I had to do a lot of research of what was being worn for Dusk and Dawn. I also researched the dances as the culture had shifted so much as society changed very quickly. This is the era of the one step and the tango - all considered very risqué. There is something to be said for the sensuality of these dances compared to the blatant ones we’re used to - restrained passion makes for a better plot in a dance, don’t you think?
